Automatic Door Repair: Common Faults and What They Usually Mean

Automatic door problems usually trace back to a short list of components. Knowing the pattern helps you describe the fault accurately when you call.

  • The door does not open. Common causes are an interrupted power supply, a failed sensor or push button, or a fault in the control unit

  • The door opens but will not close, or keeps reopening. Look for an obstruction, a dirty or misaligned sensor, or an operator that needs adjustment.

  • The door moves slowly, jerks or makes noise. Worn rollers, belts or gears, debris in the track, or settings that have drifted are the usual suspects.

  • The door opens by itself. The sensor may be picking up movement it should ignore, or its settings have changed.

  • The push button works only some of the time. A loose connection or a weak battery in a wireless unit is often the reason.
     

These are symptoms, not diagnoses. A technician has to test the door before saying which part has failed, and that is why we inspect first and quote second.
